Does this mean getting placed on the sex offender registry permanently? Is there room for leniency in the sentencing? What are the allowed sentences? Will this kid continue to go to school like a normal 13 year old kid? Does the state insist on charging the boy, against the wishes of the school and parents? Is it the school that insists on pressing charges, and if so does that necessarily mean that they have some kind of zero tolerance rule in effect regarding students touching each other? Is it the girl's parents who are insisting on pressing charges? The article doesn't say, and certainly doesn't mention anything about any zero tolerance policies.Also, DOES this elicit the same response as more serious acts? What kind of mandatory sentencing is involved with "second degree assault as a juvenile"? Does the judge have the legal power to go easy on the boy, or does the law require him to give the boy the same sentence as someone who flat out beats the shit out of a dude? Article doesn't say.
